ADDITIONAL HOME SUPPORT
Digital flashcards are a great way to support your student’s learning at home. Digital flashcards are the answer! They have been a game-changer for me, and parents are always eager to find ways to help their children.
Once your students are familiar with the vowel/consonant patterns, share a set of flashcards with them. Guess what? They can even use their phones to access the flashcards through the Google Slides app!

A FUN AND EASY WARM-UP
Kickstart your small group reading lessons with a fantastic warm-up activity using digital flashcards. Engage and motivate your students by assigning each of them their own devices, such as an iPad or tablet.
With individual devices, they can start on different slides, ensuring everyone can read unique words simultaneously. It’s a surefire way to get your students excited about word reading!
WHOLE GROUP ENGAGEMENT
Don’t let the fun be limited to small groups! Project the digital flashcards onto a Promethean Board or SmartBoard during whole group lessons. Get creative and mix things up by having students raise their hand if they know the word, encouraging them to read together, or even dividing them into groups for a fun challenge. The possibilities are endless!
DIGITAL FLASHCARD GAMES
Who doesn’t love a little friendly competition? Transform your classroom into a vibrant learning arena by turning digital flashcards into a thrilling game. My favorite game is Teacher vs Student, I love it so much I wrote an entire blog post about it!
Keep score and award points to students or groups who guess the words correctly. And hey, don’t worry if you occasionally give second chances to read a word—I’m guilty of that too! Whether it’s a small group or the whole class, teacher vs. student, or group vs. group, make it work for you!

INDEPENDENT LITERACY CENTERS
Make digital flashcards a staple in your literacy centers throughout the day. If you have multiple devices, let each student have their own, or they can share one.
Once they’ve mastered reading the words, phrases, or sentences, they can engage in additional activities using paper and pencil. They can sort the words by vowel/consonant patterns, rainbow write, write sentences using the words, or even rewrite and illustrate the provided phrases or sentences.
INTERVENTION GROUPS/RtI TIME
Digital flashcards shine brightest during intervention sessions. They are a crucial component of my lessons, reinforcing decoding skills with a focus on specific vowel or consonant patterns.
Start with flashcards featuring words only, and once your students are confident, progress to longer phrases and sentences. Watch their progress soar!
HOW TO SHARE DIGITAL FLASHCARDS
You can easily assign these digital flashcards as a material through Google Classroom or any other learning management system you use. This allows your students to access the flashcards directly from their devices and engage with them as part of their assigned activities. It’s convenient to seamlessly integrate these engaging resources into your virtual or blended learning environment.”
